Carlos Alcaraz v Marcos Giron Head to Head

This will be the first time that Alcaraz and Giron will be facing off in a competitive encounter.

Alcaraz Overturns Second Set No-Show against Fucsovics

In a rather strange sort of an encounter, Alcaraz needed three sets to overcome Marton Fucsovics and make it to the last eight of this competition but not before he had bit of a meltdown in the second set.

Having needed another bizarre three-setter against Alexei Popyrin in the first round where he wasn’t broken even once, Alcaraz overcame Fucsovics 6-3, 0-6, 6-2 to march into the last eight.

In a match where neither player started off as a favourite, Alcaraz needed two hours and seven minutes to carve out the win. Needing just one break in the opening set, Alcaraz looked like he had things under control when he took the lead, but suffered a shocking reversal of fortunes in the second.

He was broken three times in a row and the match looked to have suddenly swung against him. And then again, he broke right back in the final set, going 4-0 up before Fucsovics could know, before finishing off the encounter.

Alcaraz will start off as a favourite here against his American favourite given how he has gone about his business.

Giron Overturns Herbert in Round Three

Having sent two Argentines packing in the first two rounds of this competition in the form of Facundo Bagnis and Federico Delbonis, Giron continued with his good form as he overcame Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the third to seal his place opposite Alcaraz.

Giron needed to overcome the loss of the first set before marching into the last eight stage with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over his French opponent.

This performance from Giron in Winston-Salem comes on the back of some lacklustre showing in outdoor hard court competitions this season. In fact before this week, Giron had lost seven of the 12 matches he had played on this surface this season.

Even last week, Giron made it through the qualifiers at Cincinnati Masters but then lost to Alexander Bublik in the opener.

Can he now turn things around here in Winston-Salem?

Alcaraz v Giron Prediction and Tip

While the odds suggest there might not be too much of a difference between the two, we are backing Alcaraz’s talent and fighting qualities here. Might need another three-setter though.
