Having come into this tournament on the back of just two wins from five main draw matches on hard court surfaces this year, Gasquet looked to be finding some sort of a rhythm here.
The Frenchman, who had needed two tie-breakers to get past Egor Gerasimov in his opening round match, cruised into the quarterfinals with a 6-4, 7-6 (4) victory over Dan Evans.
Gasquet needed an hour and 53 minutes to get through Evans in a cagey fight that saw just three breaks of serves. Two of them went in favour of Gasquet, one apiece in each set while Evans got himself one in the second set but it wasn’t enough to keep the Frenchman away.
With this win, Gasquet now has a chance to make it to only his second tournament semifinal of the season, having earlier done that in Umag earlier in July. He had gone on to enter the final there before he fell to Carlos Alcaraz.
Interestingly, Gasquet could well end up facing Alcaraz again if he makes it to the final here. Can he overcome Ruusuvuori for starters though?

Ruusuvuori Shows Paire His Place
Benoit Paire has been showing signs of resurrection in recent times, and he did put up a fight against Ruusuvuori too but that wasn’t enough to help him through.
Because a near-flawless final set from Ruusuvuori of their third round match helped the Finnish player grab a three-set victory and prevented an all-French quarterfinal.
In a match where both the first two sets were shared equally, with both players getting one break of serve apiece before clinching them, it was that third set that split the encounter wide open.
Ruusuvuori broke Paire off his very first service game and then made it a two-break advantage by winning the sixth game as well, before completing a 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 win.
He will hold the edge against Gasquet but can he match up to his opponent’s experience.
