Tennys Sandgren v Ilya Ivashka Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 30-year old American, and the Belarussian, who is three years younger.

Sandgren In Poor Recent Form

Despite twice reaching the quarter-finals at the Australian Open, Sandgren’s record in his home Grand Slam is less noteworthy – this will be his fifth appearance in the main draw, and he has only once been beyond the opening round once, and that was his trip to the third round stage in 2019.

His recent form does little to suggest that he is about to improve on that sequence.

Sandgren has failed to get beyond the second round of any event he has entered in 2021, and his record since losing in the first round of the Olympics has been indicative of his performance levels generally.

He was beaten by Lloyd Harris in the second round in Washington, and then failed to qualify for Cincinnati.

Last week in Winston-Salem he suffered another first-round defeat, this time at the hands of the Italian clay court player, Marco Cecchinato.

Ivashka Close to Highest Ever World Ranking

Prior to Wimbledon this year, the Belarussian had a poor record in Grand Slams generally, only winning one match in the various tournaments, and that was in Melbourne back in 2019.

His feat in reaching the fourth round in South-West London before losing to the eventual finalist, Matteo Berrettini, was in strak contrast to what had gone before.

However, he is now close to his highest ever world ranking, after a year, in which he has reached one semi-final, in Munich, where he was a qualifier, and been in two further quarter-finals.

He has just beaten the Olympic bronze medallist to Winston-Salem to reach the last four, and will play Emil Ruusuvouri of Finland, for the right to lay either Carlos Alcaraz or Mikael Ymer in Sunday’s Final.

Sandgren v Ivashka Prediction and Tip

Ivashka is in form and Sandgren is not, so, unless his exertions in Winston-Salem have taken too much out of him, the man from Belarus should progress without too much difficulty.
