She’s just 17 but there will be huge expectations from her in her home slam. Also, she is the second highest seeded American in the women’s draw after the 13th seed Jennifer Brady and will be seen as one of the country’s biggest hopes of becoming the first American to win the U.S. Open, since Sloane Stephens won the title in 2017.
Realistically, though, she may not be a top contender for the title but she definitely has the game to go deep into the tournament.
It’s been a standout year for the World no. 23, who brings in a 34-14 record to the tournament. In addition to winning her second career title by beating Qiang Wang in the Parma final, Gauff also reached a maiden Grand Slam quarterfinal at Roland Garros and the fourth round of Wimbledon for the second time in two appearances.
A semifinalist in Adelaide and Rome, Gauff’s current form is bit difficult to gauge. She was a quarterfinalist at the Canadian Open but got two walkovers on the way and could win just one round in Cincinnati.

Linette Aiming For a First Round Upset
Linette had a terrible start to the year, but her season gained momentum in Strasbourg, where she reached the semifinals. Since then she has dished out quite a few impressive performances, including the one at Cleveland this week.
The World No. 51 knocked out Emina Bektas, Linda Fruhvirtova and Daria Kasatkina to reach the semifinals without dropping a set, but couldn’t make the final after going down to Irina-Camelia Begu in the final four stage. She will be hoping to draw inspiration from that performance to deliver the goods at Flushing Meadows but faces a tough opponent in the first round. What’s more, she won’t just be dealing with Gauff’s ball-striking ability but also a vociferous crowd that will get behind the local hope.
The Polish player, who was in the third round of the French Open and Wimbledon this year, made it to the Round of 32 for the first time at the U.S. Open last year. It will be interesting to see if she can cause an early upset in the tournament.
Gauff v Linette Prediction and Tip
Linette’s form suggests that things won’t be easy for Gauff in the first round, but the American should still win the contest and progress to the next round.
