Rublev Looking For Deep Slam Run

The World No. 7 reached a second Masters 1000 final of the season last week at Cincinnati but is yet to win a debut Masters title as he was handed a one -sided loss by fellow Next Gen Alexander Zverev.

It has been a good season and a half for Rublev, breaking into the top 10, winning a number of ATP 500s and consistently being in the reckoning at the Masters events.

He will not be thrilled with recent performances at the majors, with quarter-final losses to Medvedev in New York and Melbourne, but disappointing performances at the French Open (opening round loss) and Wimbledon ( collapse after up two sets to one against Marton Fucsovics) undoing much of the good work elsewhere.

The draw is not easy for Rublev with Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev in his half, but he will look to back himself for a spirited, focused and hopefully successful fortnight.

Farewell To Karlovic’s Career

AT 42 years of age, Ivo Karlovic is finally calling it a career, as he plays his final tournament here in New York. He will be buoyed by the fact that he came through three rounds of qualifying including a win against Yuichi Sugita from Japan.

Not at his prime any more, but the man with over 13,600 aces in his career can still trouble players with his serves, and 45 aces from his three rounds of qualifying this week are a testament to it.

Karlovic has not played much this year on the tour, appearing only at Delray Beach, Newport and Washington DC but it is more about the swansong now than anything else.

Currently ranked 210th in the world, the vastly experienced Karlovic has a winning 234-215 record on hard courts and still looks to keen to put up a fight on court rather than giving up easily. Unfortunately he runs into a difficult opponent in the opener but will have the crowd with him and if the serve is clicking, there are no easy matches against the Croat.

Rublev v Karlovic Prediction and Tip

Karlovic is playing the last tournament of his career at age 42 and has come through a challenging set of qualifiers and will be a crowd favorite in his swansong. However, unfortunately he runs into Rublev who is among the up and coming stars in the game.

Expect Karlovic to serve as well as he already does and perhaps clinch a set, but Rublev eventually will prevail unscathed.
