Lorenzo Sonego v Oscar Otte Head to Head
Sonego and Otte have been involved in just one, career head-to-head meeting till date. They ran into each other in the third round of the indoor, hard-court event at Metz, France in 2019. The Italian came through then in straight sets.

Sonego Made Last 16 at Cincinnati
After an encouraging run to the last 16 at this year’s Wimbledon Championships, Sonego slipped on the sleek, hard surface at the Canadian Open, falling to hard-hitting Frenchman Ugo Humbert in the opening round.
Determined to prove a point at his next event, the Cincinnati Masters, the 23-ranked Italian opened his campaign with a scrappy, straight-set win over Spanish teen tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz.
He followed up with another dogged, resolute performance in his next against American Tommy Paul, winning in straight sets to set up a last-16 clash with current World No.3 Stefanos Tsitsipas.
The Italian did put up a fight against the long-haired Greek, taking the opening set 7-5. However, Tsitsipas moved up a gear and cracked up the heat on the Italian to come through in three sets.
Ranked among the promising Next-Gen tennis stars from Italy alongside the likes of Matteo Berrettini, Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti, Sonego will open his US Open campaign against lanky German Oscar Otte.
The German who drew eyeballs after taking compatriot and reigning Olympic gold medalist and Cincinnati champion Alexander Zverev to five sets at the Roland-Garros earlier this year, will be no pushover for the Italian.
However, the Italian will take the confidence from his win in their only previous head-to-head clash going into this first-round encounter.

Otte Trying His Hand at Challengers
Otte, who served notice of his talent at Roland-Garros, earning a ticket to his maiden Grand Slam after clearing the qualifiers and almost taking down fellow countryman Alexander Zverev in the first round, made further strides at the Wimbledon Championships, prevailing in an epic first-rounder against Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech.
Though he couldn’t get over the line against two-time champion Andy Murray in the second round, he did make a match of it, taking the injury-prone Scot to five sets.
He followed up with back-to-back opening-round exits in the German Open and the Swiss Open, signaling a slight dip in fortune. Though he finished in the last 16 at his next event, the Challenger Meerbusch in Germany, it was short of where he had hoped to be after encouraging performances at Wimbledon and the French Open.
Against Sonego in the US Open first round, Otte would not only want to avenge his loss in their only previous head-to-head outing but also make a winning start in his third-straight Grand Slam appearance.
Sonego v Otte Prediction and Tip
While the gulf in ranking places between Sonego and Otte makes the Italian an absolute favorite going into this first-round clash, the German, as was seen at Roland-Garros and Wimbledon, is a tough nut to crack.
