Petra Kvitova v Polona Hercog Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these players and both were won by Kvitova. The first of these came at the 2012 US Open while they met against in 2019 in Wuhan, with Kvitova not dropping a single set.

There has been a title win for Kvitova this year, on the hard courts of Doha, and a semifinal at Bad Homburg Open on grass but other than that she would have liked to do a lot better than she has in 2021.
More recently, Kvitova looked to have regained some of her rhythm when she made it to the quarterfinals in Cincinnati with three successive victories over Madison Keys, Veronika Kudermetova and Ons Jabeur. All of these turned out to be one-sided wins too, which would have raised Kvitova’s hopes of going the distance again.
Unfortunately for her, like has been the case all year, she fell in the last-eight, having to retire against Angelique Kerber with a stomach-related illness.
Which is why coming into this tournament, Kvitova isn’t quite one of the players to watch out and that might suit her too, as she tries to slip under the radar and march through to the later stages.
But first, she has a small matter of getting past Hercog, an opponent she has dealt with decently in the past.

Hercog’s Won Just Two Hard Court Matches in 2021
It’s been a forgettable season for Hercog, a clay-courter who has struggled even more on other surfaces.
In fact, across hard court and grass, Hercog has won just two main draw matches including one in Cleveland against the 349th-ranked Maria Mateas. Her only other win had also come against a player ranked outside the top 100, Margarita Gasparyan at the start of the season in Australia.
Qualifying defeats in both, Montreal and Cincinnati have punctuated her US Open Series and her general lack of form this season means Hercog will need nothing short of a miracle in her opener here.
Can she at least put up a fight against a player who could have fitness concerns.
Kvitova v Hercog Prediction and Tip
Backing Kvitova to do the job here but at 1/6 with her fitness concerns, she looks rather short. The games handicap market for Hercog looks like a decent bet.
