When will the 2023 Cincinnati Open be played? Cincinnati Masters Schedule & Dates
The 2023 edition of the Cincinnati Open will kick-start from Monday, August 14 with the singles finals on both sides of the draw to be held on the following Sunday, August 20.
The first round matches will be played on the first two days of the tournament while the second round matches will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The qualifying rounds will be held in its leadup, on August 12 and 13.

What Happened at the 2022 Cincinnati Open?
Unseeded player Borna Coric made a shock run to the final where he then defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas to lift the trophy.
As a 152nd-ranked player featuring in the tournament, Coric became the lowest-ranked player to clinch a title in a Masters tournament. Coric, who had never made it beyond the quarterfinal stage of a Grand Slam tournament before this, overcame the likes of Lorenzo Musetti, Rafael Nadal, Roberto Bautista-Agut, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Cameron Norrie to make the final.
The women’s singles title was won by another unseeded player Caroline Garcia.
In fact, Garcia started off as a qualifier who needed to win eight matches in a row to add another title to her season’s list. The Frenchwoman had earlier won a couple of WTA 1000 tournaments but none since 2017.
Garcia defeated Petra Kvitova 6-2, 6-4 in the final having also usurped Aryna Sabalenka, Jessica Pegula and Maria Sakkari in the previous rounds.
The men’s singles title at the 2021 Cincinnati Open was won by Alexander Zverev, who defeated Andrey Rublev in the final, 6-2, 6-3. Zverev had earlier sent out Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semifinal while Rublev had stunned the top seeded and fellow Russian Daniil Medvedev.
Australia’s Ash Barty won the women’s singles title in 2021, defeating Jil Teichmann in the final, following a run in the tournament where she didn’t drop a single set.
Barty had overcome Angelique Kerber while Teichmann stunned Karolina Pliskova in their respective semifinals.
Novak Djokovic and Victoria Azarenka came through in the men’s and women’s singles draws respectively to clinch the 2020 edition of the Cincinnati Open.
In a competition which was held in the New York bubble in the lead-up to the US Open, Djokovic overcame a first set loss in the final to defeat Milos Raonic in the title decider. The women’s singles final saw Naomi Osaka give her opponent Azarenka a walkover because of an injury.
Interestingly, Osaka and Azarenka would go on to meet in the final of the US Open two weeks later with the Japanese player winning the title at Flushing Meadows.
Rafael Nadal opted out of the tournament while Dominic Thiem did not make it past the second round in the men’s draw. On the other hand, six of the top eight seeds in the women’s draw failed to make it beyond the third round with only Osaka and Johanna Konta entering the semifinal.
Daniil Medvedev won the 2019 Cincinnati Masters title by beating David Goffin in straight sets in the final. He had earlier defeated the defending champion Novak Djokovic in the semifinal to make it to the title-decider while Goffin crushed Richard Gasquet in the other last-four match.
Interestingly, both, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer withdrew from the tournament before the competition began, but Djokovic was unable to take advantage of the situation, going down to the rising star, Russia’s Medvedev.
The women’s singles title was won by Madison Keys, who overcame surprise finalist Svetlana Kuznetsova. Kuznetsova defeated top seeded Ash Barty in the semifinal while Keys was a straight-set winner over fellow American Sofia Kenin in the other last-four encounter.
Third seeded Karolina Pliskova reached the quarterfinal but went down to Kuznetsova while second seeded Naomi Osaka retired from her quarterfinal match in the final set against Kenin. Venus Williams and Maria Sakkari were the other losing quarterfinalists.
This was after Novak Djokovic, won the 2018 title by beating Roger Federer in the final. He won 6-4, 6-4 to complete a haul of all nine Masters tournament wins.
Rafael Nadal was expected to be the top seed but withdrew before the tournament began.
Djokovic needed three sets to get past Marin Cilic in the semi-finals while Federer won his semi-final after David Goffin retired midway during their encounter after losing the first set. Milos Raonic, Pablo Carreno Busta, Juan Martin del Potro and Stan Wawrinka were the fellow quarter-finalists in the competition.
Third seeded Alexander Zverev was knocked out by Robin Haase in the second round, while defending champion Grigor Dimitrov and sixth seeded Kevin Anderson made it to the third.
In the women’s singles draw, Kiki Bertens overcame a tough challenge from the top seeded Simona Halep in the final to win the title. She lost the first set and needed a tie-breaker in the second before overturning Halep and winning the encounter and first ever Premier 5 title.
Unseeded Bertens had earlier stunned Petra Kvitova in the semi-finals, Elina Svitolina in the quarter-finals, and Caroline Wozniacki (who retired after being a set down) in round two en route the title. Defending champion Garbine Muguruza was dumped out in the second round.
In the 2017 edition of the competition, Grigor Dimitrov defeated Nick Kyrgios in the final to lift the title, while David Ferrer and John Isner were the losing semi-finalists.
Kyrgios’ passage to the final consisted of defeating Rafael Nadal in the quarter-final while Roger Federer, who was the second seed in the tournament withdrew before it began because of an injury.
In the women’s singles final, Garbine Muguruza triumphed by beating Simona Halep, after she had knocked the top seeded Karolina Pliskova off the perch in straight sets in the semi-finals.
