Jelena Ostapenko v Alize Cornet Head to Head

Alize Cornet continues her late-season revival as she overcame the local favourite Mandy Minella in the second round of the Luxembourg Open.
The match lasted for an hour and 45 minutes and saw the Frenchwoman beat Minella 6-3, 6-3. She saved eight break points out of 10 and won 68.2% of her first service points.
Now set to compete in the quarterfinal, Cornet faces a rather formidable opponent who has been in much better form this season than her. That said, the number eight seeded Cornet was most recently the runner-up in the Chicago Open where she lifted her first WTA singles trophy of any kind since July 2019.
The 31-year-old was also a semifinalist in the Bett1Open where she delivered one of the best performances of the season by upsetting Bianca Andreescu and Garbine Muguruza en route. Up until then, she was battling a litany of early-round exits on the tour.
As a former World No. 11, she has a decent pedigree and a great deal of experience to reach the final here.

Ostapenko Survives Hartono
Jelena Ostapenko, starting as the number three seed in Luxembourg, is the defending champion having won the tournament in 2019.
After moving past Jule Niemeier in the opener, the Latvian met the Dutch qualifier Arianne Hartono and found herself in an arduous three-setter. But in the end, the current World No. 30 came out as the winner with 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 in less than two hours.
Ostapenko has enjoyed a decent spell in 2021 as she reached the quarterfinal in the Italian Open and later, won the title in Eastbourne International. That was her first singles title since winning in Luxembourg two years ago. Later on, she reached the third round at Wimbledon and Cincinnati Open.
Having won the French Open in 2017, the 24-year-old has proven on multiple occasions that she is capable of punching above her weight.
Ostapenko v Cornet Prediction and Tip
Ostapenko, given her overall season and a superior win-loss tally to Cornet’s (23-15 to 19-21) will start as the favourite. And considering that there have been only a handful of instances where she has fallen to players ranked below her, she will fancy her chances of reaching the semis.
