Felix Auger-Aliassime v Grigor Dimitrov Head to Head

Auger-Aliassime beat Dimitrov on grass at Queen’s in 2019 and then defeated him again on the hard court of Rotterdam in 2020.

Auger-Aliassime in Top Form

He may have lost his only singles match at the Laver Cup against good friend Matteo Berrettini over the weekend, but that was a pretty close contest and probably just an aberration for the World No. 11, who has been in terrific form over the last couple of months.

The 21-year-old, who made his quarterfinal debut at a Grand Slam at Wimbledon, went a step ahead at the U.S. Open, reaching the semifinal at Flushing Meadows before falling to eventual champion Daniil Medvedev. In addition he has already featured in two finals this year, at Melbourne-2 and Stuttgart, but just like his previous six finals, he lost both of them in straight sets.

Auger-Aliassime, who broke into the scene by making an impression on clay courts, has developed into a solid hard court player over the last two years and a 19-11 record on the surface, in a season where he has a 33-20 overall record, is noteworthy.

Seeded third, the Canadian begins his challenge from the second round. Dimitrov is a tough opponent, but given the form Auger-Aliassime has displayed recently he could be headed to a ninth quarterfinal this season.

Dimitrov Battles Past Fucsovics

Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov outlasted Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics in a first round match at the San Diego Open which lasted two hours and eight minutes.

Dimitrov, was broken twice by Fucsovics in the second set, but it was the two vital breaks that he got in the first and the third sets that proved decisive in a 6-3, 1-6, 7-5 victory.

The win improved the World No. 29 to 16-14 this season. The 30-year-old, who reached three consecutive quarterfinals at the start of the season, all on hard courts, including the Australian Open, found the going difficult on clay and grass, and is now looking to salvage the up-and-down season with another deep run.

Dimitrov is one win away from a fifth quarterfinal this season. Interestingly he is 0-4 in the last eight matches this year. He had come into the tournament with a 4-6 record from the last 10 matches, which went back to his first-round exit from Roland Garros.

Auger-Aliassime v Dimitrov Prediction and Tip

Auger-Aliassime is yet to drop a set against the Bulgarian, he is the form player and a player on the rise. Expect him to extend his dominance over the 30-year-old.
