Hubert Hurkacz v Aslan Karatsev Head to Head
Hurkacz and Karatsev have never been involved in a head-to-head meeting before. However, with the Pole coming off his fourth Tour title and opening his San Diego campaign with a win and the Russian cantering to a easy win in the first round, expect a nail-biting clash as the two go against each other for the first time.

Hurkacz Fights Past Bolt
Coming into the San Diego Open on the back of lifting his fourth career Tour title at the Moselle Open, Hurkacz had a second straight championship run in his sights.
Taking the positives from a sizzling campaign at the Mozelle Open that saw him taking down his idol and three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray in the quarter-final before besting seasoned Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta to lift the title, the current World No.12 launched his San Diego sojourn with a hard-fought victory over Australian Alex Bolt.
The towering Pole fought off a stiff challenge from the Aussie to bag the opening set via a tiebreak. The second set, however, was more of a stroll for Hurkacz as he raced to a commanding lead and held on to his advantage to eventually close out a clinical 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 win.
Between the 24-year-old and a second straight quarter-final after Moselle stands an indefatigable opponent in the form of Russian Aslan Karatsev.
Though the Pole, on current form, should fancy getting over the line against Karatsev, the Russian, who reached the Australian Open semifinal as a qualifier and followed it up with his maiden Tour title in Dubai, won’t be a pushover in Friday’s last-16 clash.

Karatsev Downs Delbonis in Opener
While his last tournament, the Astana Open, ended in a first-round loss to Emil Ruusuvuori of Finland, Karatsev regained the form that took him to a third-round finish at the US Open to launch his San Diego campaign with a win.
Drawing seasoned Federico Delbonis of Argentina in the first round, the 24th-ranked Russian produced near-flawless tennis to race to a 6-1 in the opening set.
Though his Argentine opponent gave a better account of himself in the second set, Karatsev kept up his levels to eventually cruise home 6-1, 7-5.
However, the Russian has to be at his very best if he is to progress to the quarter-finals as he faces in-form Pole Hubert Hurkacz in Friday’s last-16 clash.
Hurkacz’s last tournament, the Moselle Open, ended in a championship win over Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta and the Russian will have his task cut out going into the battle for the last eight.
Hurkacz v Karatsev Prediction and Tip
Current form and superior ranking makes Hurkacz a strong favorite going into this last-16 clash. However, Karatsev won’t be short on motivation either and would be determined to open his head-to-head account against the Pole with a win.
