For a country replete with tennis glamor and superstars like the Czech Republic, Tereza Martincova has found very little room for gaining traction with her tennis. But over the course of the 2021 season, the tattooed 26-year-old has won over a growing list of onlookers.
Martincova has put together a career-best season, winning 24 matches and sitting at a career-high ranking of World No. 52. She is on the verge of breaking the top 50 for the first time in the coming weeks.
Had it not been the presence of compatriot Barbora Krejcikova in the final of Prague, Martincova would have probably been celebrating her maiden title on home soil. But despite finishing runner-up at the Livesport Prague Open, Martincova has excelled at the other low-key WTA events in recent months.
The Prague native made the Round of 16 in her last outing in Chicago scoring a win over Tamara Zidansek. And prior to that, she reached the last eight in Ostrava, beating French Open finalist Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova en route.

Krueger Earns A Wild Card Into Indian Wells
The youngest player in the Indian Wells draw is 17-year-old Ashlyn Krueger, who was born in 2004 and who only turned pro less than three years ago.
Krueger is ranked 609 in the world and won the US Open junior doubles title alongside Robin Montgomery, a feat that quite easily convinced the tournament organizers in Indian Wells to hand her a wild card at one of the most prestigious events on the WTA calendar.
The American teenager is no stranger to making headlines. Krueger won the Billie Jean King Girls 18s National Championships, which gave her a wild card at this year’s US Open – her maiden main draw appearance on the main tour in singles.
And she came close to pull off a shock win, but eventually fell to a three-set defeat at the hands of Anna Karolina Schmiedlova. The Texas native is now eyeing her first WTA win on Wednesday.
Martincova v Krueger Prediction and Tip
The huge gulf in rankings makes this a complete mismatch. But it is pertinent to note that Krueger nearly made a mockery of the over-600 ranking spots between her and Schmiedlova. The teenager should give a good account of herself in what should be a confidence-boosting loss.
