Petra Kvitova v Victoria Azarenka Head to Head
It’s a rivalry that dates back to 2008 and Kvitova has a 5-3 head to head lead.
Most recently they met in St. Petersburg in 2019 with Kvitova beating the Belarusian in straight sets.
They are 2-2 on hard courts, and have played just two three-setters, with Kvitova winning both of them.

Kvitova Powers Past Rus
World No. 11 Petra Kvitova stormed into the third round of the Indian Wells Open with a straight sets win over the Netherlands’ Arantxa Rus..
Dropping just two points on her serve and breaking her opponent twice, the Czech seized the first set in just 30 minutes. The Dutch built a bit of pressure in the second set, at least during the initial exchanges, but after holding off a six-deuce game to draw level at 1-1 and missing out on four break point opportunities in the next game, Kvitova began dominating the proceedings again as she raced away with the next five games to win the contest 6-2, 6-2.
The seventh seed will be featuring in the third round a Indian Wells for the seventh time in her career. She has been to the quarterfinals twice before but has never gone beyond.
A winner of 28 singles titles, including two Grand Slams, the lefty is playing her last tournament of the season. It’s been a tough year for the 31-year-old, who started well by claiming the Doha title, but has faced plenty of early exits particularly in the recent times.
In her previous tournament in Ostrava, she did make the semifinals but was demolished by Annett Kontaveit. Indian Wells has never been a happy hunting tournament for the Czech, but having started well she will look to go as deep as she can in the tournament.

Azarenka Through After Linette Retirement
Two-time Indian Wells champion Victoria Azarenka moved into the third round after Poland’s Magda Linette retired with an injury while trailing 5-7, 0-3.
Linette had started the match well, building a 2-5 lead in the first set, but the former No. 1 bounced back with solid returns, winning the next five games in a row to clinch the first set.
Azarenka kept the momentum going in the second set before Linette, struggling with a leg injury, was forced to pull out of the contest.
The two-time major winner had won her two titles at Indian Wells by beating Maria Sharapova in 2012 and Serena Williams in 2016. She had failed to make it to the third round in her last two appearances though, falling in the round of 64 in 2018 and 2019.
Like Kvitova, Azarenka has struggled to deliver good results on a consistent basis this year. She has reached just two semifinals in Doha and Hamburg and is yet to add to her 40 final appearances this year. She had reached three title clashes last year.
Azarenka has won two matches in each of her previous four tournaments, exiting Montreal in the quarterfinal, Cincinnati in the Round of 16, the U.S. Open in the Round of 32, and withdrawing from her third round match at the Chicago Fall Classic last week. Can she keep the trend going win a second match at Indian Wells?
Kvitova v Azarenka Prediction and Tip
This will be an interesting contest, with little to choose between the two. However, given Kvitova’s record in the tournament, Azarenka will be a slight favourite going into this one.
