Alcaraz v Murray Head to Head

Alcaraz and Murray have never been involved in a career head-to-head meeting before. However, with the Spaniard already touted as the next big thing and coming off a maiden quarter-final appearance at a Grand Slam at the US Open and Murray still going strong in his mid-thirties, expect a fascinating encounter as the two go head to head for the first time.

Alcaraz Conceded US Open QF to Auger Aliassime

Since lifting his maiden Tour title at the Croatia Open, Spanish teen tennis sensation Garcia has been making giant strides in the men’s game. And, leaving a lasting impact in only his third career Grand Slam appearance at the US Open, the 18-year-old reached the quarter-finals on the back of some sensational performances.

After opening his campaign with a nerveless, straight-set win over Cameron Norrie of Great Britain, the Spaniard followed up with a labored win over Arthur Rinderknech of France and a dazzling upset victory over current World No.3 and top title contender Stefanos Tsitsipas to reach the second week of the tournament.

Going from a pretender to a dark horse with with the sensational upset of Tsitsipas, Alcaraz pipped high-flying German Peter Gojowczyk in a knife-edged five-setter in the last 16 to book his passage to the quarter-finals.

However, an unfortunate injury put paid to his hopes of progressing deeper in the tournament as the young Spaniard conceded the quarter-final tie to his Canadian opponent Felix Auger Aliassime.

The Canadian had bagged the opening set 6-3 and was leading 3-1 in the second when Alcaraz withdrew.

In his first tournament since the US Open, the Spaniard will have another opportunity to show his talent in a testing tournament opener against three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray at the Indian Wells Masters on Sunday.

While the two have never played each other before, Garcia will take the positives from the positives from his recent outings to plot another big scalp on Sunday.

Murray Downs Mannarino in Opener

After a heartwarming and inspiring run at the Wimbledon Championships, Murray couldn’t produce an encore at the year’s last Grand Slam as he went down fighting to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the opening round at the US Open.

However, he has since recorded some notable performances to give himself more than a decent chance to mount a serious title challenge at the Indian Wells Masers.

And, in a glowing affirmation of the form that he is currently in, the three-time Grand Slam champion produced near-flawless tennis to take down experienced Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in the opening round.

After taking the opening set with relative ease and by a handsome margin, the two-time Wimbledon champion  found a higher gear in the second to cruise home 6-3, 6-2.

However, he faces the daunting prospect of going past 18-year-old tennis prodigy Carlos Alcaraz if he is to go deeper in the tournament.  While his superior big-match experience will hold the Scot in good stead going into this clash, the young Spaniard will also be quietly confident of picking up another big scalp.

Alcaraz v Murray Prediction and Tip

While experience favors Murray, the sheer exuberance and athleticism of  young Garcia will give him more than a fair chance of scoring an upset over the three-time Grand Slam champion.
