Karolina Pliskova v Beatriz Haddad Maia Head to Head

Karolina Pliskova is off to a good start in the BNP Paribas Open, defeating Magdalena Frech in the opener with 7-5, 6-2. The 29-year-old Czech, who also happens to be the current World No. 3, is on the prowl for her first singles title since the 2020 Brisbane International.
Following a bleak start to the year by her standards, Pliskova picked up the pace in the second half of the season. She reached three WTA finals on three different surfaces – the Italian Open, Wimbledon, and the Canadian Open – but ultimately had to settle for the runner-up trophy in each of them.
Nonetheless, Pliskova has been absolutely consistent with her results, seeing that she followed that finalist feat in Montreal with a semifinal run in Cincinnati and a quarterfinal appearance in the US Open.
The former world number one has also been consistent with her performance here in the valley. In her last four appearances at the Indian Wells Open, Pliskova always made it to the final eight, reaching the semis twice.

Maia Makes the Most of Her Chance
Beatriz Haddad Maia started in the Indian Wells Open as a qualifier but lost to Usue Maitane Arconada in the final qualifying round. However, by the virtue of the lucky loser rule, she earned a ticket to the second round.
Over there, World No. 115 dispatched Mayar Sherif 6-3, 6-0, to set up the clash with Pliskova.
Admittedly, this result also marks her best WTA showing of the season.
The 25-year-old Brazilian has spent the better part of the season on the ITF circuit where she has been a lot more successful. She won an impressive five ITF titles this season, two of which came in September. And purely looking at her win-loss tally, it is an astonishing 63-18.
Even though Maia lacks main tour experience, this kind of form and pedigree can’t be undermined. She has played a lot of tennis this year and will fancy her chances of taking on Pliskova.
Pliskova v Maia Prediction and Tip
Pliskova will start as the favourite but given Maia’s overall form this season, it may not be an easy win for the Czech. Expect an entertaining game of tennis, one where an upset is definitely on the cards.
