World No. 4 Alexander Zverev and former World No. 1 Victoria Azarenka will participate in the upcoming edition of the World Tennis Challenge.
The two players will join the French tennis legend Henri Leconte to represent Team Leconte. They will be facing Team Cash comprising the World No. 12 Borna Coric, the reigning US Open doubles champion Coco Vandeweghe and her coach, Pat Cash.
Zverev has had an incredible run in 2018. He finished the year with a win-loss record of 58-19 and marked it with four singles titles and two runner-up feats. His best run undoubtedly came at the year-end ATP Finals in London where he stunned the likes of Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic to win the tournament.
As for his teammate Azarenka, her best run of the season came at the Miami Masters, where she reached the semifinal. She was also the quarterfinalist at WTA Tokyo. Even though the Belarusian had a quiet season, she is more than capable of winning big.
The 2013 Australian Open champion has won a total of 20 singles titles on the WTA Tour. However, her form of late has taken a toll and she will be looking to bring it back to life in the 2019 season.
Meanwhile, in Team Cash, Coric broke new grounds in 2018 by reaching his career-high singles ranking as the World No. 12. Additionally, he won the ATP Halle and reached the final at the Shanghai Masters, where he lost to Novak Djokovic.
Vandeweghe, on the other hand, didn’t have great of a season in 2018. She slumped heavily as a singles player although, on the doubles circuit she won the US Open doubles title and the Miami Masters doubles title with Ashleigh Barty.
These players will be competing in the 11th edition of the World Tennis Challenge that is set to take place on January 7 and January 8, 2019, at the Memorial Drive in Adelaide, Australia. The event is a part of the Australian Open series although; it is a professional exhibition tennis tournament with no ranking points at stake here.
