Karen Khachanov v Denis Kudla Head to Head
In their only head-to-head clash at Washington in 2018, Kudla overcame higher-ranked Khachanov in a stunning upset. Defying most pre-match estimates, the American won in straight sets.

In-Form Khachanov Eyes Grand Slam Glory
Getting his new tennis season off to a blazing start, Khachanov finished runner-up at Adelaide 1. Reaching the semifinals after posting two contrasting wins over American Steve Johnson and Belarussian Egor Gerasimov, the Russian set up a last-four outing against former US Open champion Marin Cilic.
After winning a knife-edged first set that went to a tiebreak, Khachanov stepped up a gear in the second to eventually prevail in straight sets against the Croat.
Drawn to face in-form Frenchman Gael Monfils in the title clash, the Russian failed to deliver the goods when it mattered the most as he fell to a 4-6 loss in the opening set and went down by a similar margin the second to finish runners-up.
Moving into Adelaide 2, Khachanov opened his campaign with a straight-set win over Italian Gianluca Mager. The win saw him set up a quarter-final clash with Arthur Rinderknech of France.
Though the opening set against the Frenchman went to a tiebreak, the Rinderknech played the key points better to win it 9-7. While staying in the fight in the second set, Khachanov eventually suffered another break of serve to go down in straight sets.
However, the last four and last eight finishes in his previous two events will have given him just the dose of belief and momentum that he needs ahead of his opening tie at the Australian Open against American Denis Kudla.
Khachanov trails Kudla 0-1 in head-to-head battles and, on current form, he would be itching to get even with the American on Monday.

Kudla Eyes 2016 Atlanta Encore Against Khachanov
Defying the odds that were stacked against him, Kudla pulled off a surprise win over Khachanov the only previous time they met on court in Atlanta in 2016.
Drawn against each other again in the first round of the Australian Open, the American, currently ranked outside the top-100 in singles, would look to do an encore. However, his run of results over the past couple of weeks won’t give much confidence going into his opening clash at then year’s first Grand Slam.
Opening his new tennis season at the Melbourne Summer Set, Kudla failed to clear the qualifiers losing to Australian Rinky Hijikata in straight sets.
Hoping for a better run of fortune at his next event, the Sydney International, the American managed to clear the qualifying hurdles. Up against Federico Delbonis of Argentina in the event proper, Kudla punched above his weight tp take him down comprehensively in straight sets.
However, he failed tp keep up his good work in his next against experienced Belgian star David Goffin, going down in straight sets to crash out of the tournament.
Going into the Khachanov clash on Monday, Kudla will take a lot of heart and some confidence from his win in their only previous meeting. However, with two strong finishes in his last two events, the Russian is quite another beast early this season and it would take nothing short of a Herculean effort from the American to post his second career win over Khachanov.
Khachanov v Kudla Prediction and Tip
Despite losing his only previous head-to-head clash with Kudla, Khachanov, on account of superior ranking, will have the edge over the American going into this first-round clash.
Tip: Khachanov to win AND Both players to win a set: 8/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
