Andrey Rublev v Gianluca Mager Head to Head
This will be a first meeting between the two.

Rublev Hoping for a Brisk Start
A quarterfinalist at the Australian Open last year, Andrey Rublev will be one of the top contenders this year, particularly after Novak Djokovic was sent back by the Australian authorities thus leaving the men’s field open.
But the fifth seed Rublev enters the competition with little match practice behind him. The Russian was due to take part at the ATP Cup, but tested positive for COVID-19 days before the start of the tournament and therefore he missed the tournament and delayed his visit to Australia.
Ranked No. 5 in the world, the 24-year-old, who went 41-10 in 2020 with five titles, finished 2021 with a 53-23 record, which included a sole title in Rotterdam. He did reach three other finals though, including his first two Masters 1000 finals in Monte-Carlo and Cincinnati, but lost them to Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev respectively.
His third runner-up finish came in Halle, suffering a shock defeat to Ugo Humbert. Rublev also played a key role in leading Russia to victories at the ATP Cup and Davis Cup in 2021.
Rublev will be looking for another deep run at this year’s event, but faces a potential fourth-round match-up with Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Mager Off to a 2-2 Start
Italy’s Gianluca Mager is 2-2 from the two Adelaide tournaments this year. At Adelaide-1, the Italian defeated Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo in the first round but lost to Egor Gerasimov in the second. Mager got his revenge over Gerasimov in the first round in Adelaide-2, but couldn’t go past Karen Khachanov in the second round.
Ranked No. 63 in the world, the 27-year-old will be featuring at the Australian Open main draw for the second time in his career. On his debut last year, he was sent packing in the first round by Aslan Karatsev.
A one-time finalist on the tour, Mager has a far better record on clay than on hard courts. He had a 16-23 record last year, which included runs to four quarterfinals.
Can he pull off a shock win in the first round against all odds?
