Gomez, who is Ecuador’s No. 1 player, is more at home on clay. His previous main draw appearance at this level came at the French Open in 2020. But he demonstrated his all-court game to defeat the likes of Nicola Kuhn, Mitchell Krueger, and former World No. 70 Thomas Fabbiano to book his spot in the main draw.
Gomez comes from a tennis heritage family. His father, Andres Gomez, is a former doubles No. 1 tennis player who famously defeated Andre Agassi to win the 1990 edition of the French Open.
