It’s almost as if Barty’s season in 2022 has begun from where she had left it off last year. After starting off by dropping the first ever set she played this year in Adelaide – to Cori Gauff – the Aussie has won 10 successive sets spread across five matches in a row.
And that has ensured a title win in that very tournament in Adelaide to kick-start the season followed by a 6-0, 6-1 drubbing of Lesia Tsurenko.
Needing just 56 minutes in the opener, Barty overcame a very low percentage of first serves – a mere 58% – to break her opponent five times in the encounter.
She needed to save a couple of break-points of her own but did so with aplomb, smacking 14 winners to go with the 17 unforced errors. In fact, Barty had a chance to double-bagel her opponent, missing out on two match-points at 6-0, 5-0 before converting it off her fifth of the match.
Given the rasping form she has shown so far this year, Barty would be difficult to stop especially for a player ranked outside the top 140.

Bronzetti Edges Past Gracheva
Having qualified for the competition with wins over Amandine Hesse, Valeria Savinykh and Nao Hibino, Bronzetti added another feather to her cap by surprising Varvara Gracheva in her first round match.
Bronzetti, who was making her maiden Australian Open appearance, and featuring in the main draw of any Grand Slam for the first time ever too, came back from a set down to stun the 8/11 favourite Gracheva in the opener.
She won 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 to set up this meeting with Barty. Interestingly, this was her first main draw win on the WTA circuit since last September.
Earlier this year, Bronzetti had clinched a couple of qualifiers to make it to the Adelaide International main draw where she went down fighting to Sofia Kenin.
Barty v Bronzetti Prediction and Tip
This seems to be a no-brainer with Barty expected to trample all over her opposition but given the bit of confidence Bronzetti might take to the encounter, expect there to be some more fight than Tsurenko showed.
