Felix Auger-Aliassime v Alejandro Davidovich Fokina Head to Head

Auger-Aliassime defeated Davidovich Fokina in their only meeting before this at the Alicante Challenger in 2018.

Auger-Aliassime Survives Scare In His Opener

After being handed a tricky opener, Felix Auger-Aliassime passed a stern test against Emil Ruusuvuori to book his spot in the second round of the Australian Open.

The victory itself was far from convincing as the number nine seed needed the drama of a fifth set to avoid a major upset on day two.

In a match that lasted 17 minutes shy of four hours, Auger-Aliassime needed his big-match attitude on display to come from behind. He trailed the Finnish No. 1 6-4 0-6 3-6 before rethinking and regrouping to take the next two sets.

The Canadian credited his opponent for playing a great match as he found difficulties adjusting to the cold and windy conditions in Melbourne. He still found a way to win ugly, firing 23 winners and garnering a crucial break in the fifth game of the deciding set.

Davidovich Fokina Stops Wild Card Bolt

It was a rollercoaster day of emotions for Australian men’s players. With the likes of Kyrgios and Alex De Minaur advancing unscathed, wild card Alex Bolt and Jordan Thompson exited the tournament.

Bolt, a wild card entrant, was playing in his sixth main draw at the Australian Open but he did not have the game plan to combat Davidovich Fokina’s style.

The Spaniard was broken just once in the two-hour contest as he picked up his first win of the season. It was a pretty solid match in many aspects, but he will need to improve his first serve considerably to have an edge over Auger-Aliassime.

Davidovich Fokina won 63% first-serve points but fared better on his second serve which he dropped just eight points. He has never gone beyond the second round of the Australian Open before.

Auger-Aliassime v Davidovich Fokina Prediction and Tip

Auger-Aliassime’s struggles with the court conditions should give slight hope to Davidovich Fokina. While we reckon the Spaniard might snatch a set or two, he is unlikely to win the war.

Tip: Auger-Aliassime to win AND Both players to win a set: 6/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
