Marketa Vondrousova – Aryna Sabalenka
Two players with very distinctive tennis styles will clash in Melbourne as Marketa Vondrosouva takes on Aryna Sabalenka. Who will have the edge on the extra fast conditions of the Australian courts, find out below?
Marketa Vondrousova v Aryna Sabalenka Head to Head
These two players have played four times in total so far with both winning two apiece. Most of the matches are a few years removed with Vondrousova scoring wins in the first two matches and Sabalenka in the two since. The final match was played last year in Miami and Sabalenka won 6-1 6-2.

Vondrousova’s Struggle With Consistency
Marketa Vondrousova played in a grand slam final a few years ago and ever since then she is yet to have major impact on the tour. A bit of a resurgence came last year at the Olympics where she snatched a medal but even after that there was not much success.
The Czech player usually plays best on clay where her precise shots are very useful however she is capable of playing well on quick hard courts as well. She does not possess too much power in her shots which can be an issue when faced with a heavy hitter.
In 2022 she has a 3-1 record with the loss coming against a heavy hitter in Ana Konjuh and that’s troublesome for her ahead of facing Sabalenka. It’s not a good matchup and she will have issues if the Belarussian produces a good level.

Sabalenka’s Unwillingness To Change
Aryna Sabalenka is the same type of player she was a few years ago. It’s power, power, power and some more power. There are not many tactics to her game which is a problem. She achieved great success with her style of play but she can’t get over the top yet.
The problem is quite striking when one looks at her recent struggles with serving. She simply is not willing to change her style and become a more complete player. She continues to play her game which works against most players but is not good enough against the best.
Ashleigh Barty always exposes Sabalenka when they play because the variety of Barty neutralizes her game pretty well. In 2022 she has a 2-2 record with losses to Kaja Juvan and Rebecca Peterson. Her first wins came in Melbourne and even those have not been without issues.
She will need to be careful against Vondrousova and not allow her mistakes to cost her but the matchup is favourable. If she produces a decent level she should have enough.
Vondrousova v Sabalenka Prediction and Tip
Aryna Sabalenka has a very favourable matchup against Marketa Vondrousova. The Belarussian plays with a lot of force that the Czech player simply does not have. It does not allow her to counter efficiently which is a problem.
In matchups like these Vondrousova mainly focuses on keeping the ball in the play waiting for mistakes. It’s the way she defeated Naomi Osaka and other players at the Olympics and it can work. Sabalenka has shown a willingness to self-destruct before.
If Sabalenka keeps the error total on the minimum and if she avoids double-digit double faults she will have a very good chance of winning. A comeback win over Sanders should give her confidence and belief and I think it will be enough.
A three-setter should not be ruled out as Sabalenka is still quite inconsistent and I think Vondrousova will find a way to snatch one. Despite that, I don’t think she will have enough to win the match.
Tip: Sabalenka to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
