Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova v Sorana Cirstea Head to Head

The two players have quite a bit of rivalry going on between them. The tally is tied at 3-3 with Pavlyuchenkova getting the last laugh in the 2018 WTA Eastbourne.

Pavlyuchenkova Stops Stosur

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova had the honour of being the last singles opponent that Samantha Stosur plays in her professional career. In that second-round match, the Russian needed just 70 minutes to win the match with 6-2, 6-2 and conclude for Stosur what has been a remarkable tennis spell.

The number 10 seed did not feature in any build-up tournaments and admittedly, there were doubts as to how far she can progress without some competitive practice this season. However, Pavlyuchenkova has done well to dispel those concerns.

Playing in her first match since the Billie Jean King Cup Finals last year, the World No. 11 knocked out Anna Bondar in the Slam opener with 6-2, 6-1.

The 30-year-old is a three-time quarterfinalist in the Australian Open and boasts of a superior pedigree than Cirstea. Last season, Pavlyuchenkova was also the finalist in the French Open and Madrid Open. The Olympic Gold medalist enjoyed one of the best seasons on record and is keen to build on it further.

Cirstea Overcomes Kucova

Sorana Cirstea had a comfortable second-round bout against Kristina Kucova, knocking out the Slovak 6-2, 6-4. This win follows her first-round whitewash of the former world number two Petra Kvitova with 6-2, 6-2.

In a way, Cirstea is enjoying a season of firsts – she defeated her first top 10 player since 2017 and also served the first double bagel of her career. That match took place in Melbourne Set 2 where the #38-ranked Romanian dispatched Varvara Gracheva with 6-0, 6-0.

However, she fell to Amanda Anisimova in the next round and followed it with a first-round loss to Anhelina Kalinina in Adelaide 2.

The 31-year-old had a decent run last year although, all of her success came on clay courts. She won the Istanbul Cup, reached the final in Strasbourg, and fourth-round in the French Open.

Pavlyuchenkova v Cirstea Prediction and Tip

Both players are coming off a fine season but Pavlyuchenkova will start as the favourite owing to her overall form and ranking. Cirstea is confident and will believe in herself following her terrific run. She is equipped to give the Russian a solid run for her money.
