Mitchell Krueger v Yoshihito Head to Head

These two players played against each other a couple of times but their most recent matchup came in 2016. For what it’s worth, Nishioka leads the matchup 3-1 losing only their first match 10 years ago.

Krueger’s Aspiration for the Top 100

Mitchell Krueger currently sits outside of the top 100 as he did for the majority of his career. The American always hoped to reach that next step but he is yet to make it happen. A solid chance for some big points is here in Dallas in his home state of Texas.

The Texan will enjoy a lot of support from family & friends coming over from Forth Worth and he should be inspired to put up a good show. The draw was not kind to him as it paired him up with surging Nishioka who played some great tennis lately.

Krueger posted a 4-4 record in 2022 so far but he generally plays his best tennis on American soil. Can he have enough for Nishioka remains to be seen but the Japanese player has played back-to-back finals and some fatigue has to be in play? That’s an area Krueger can exploit.

Nishioka Finding Form in North America

Yoshihito Nishioka has an 11-4 record in 2022 and most of those wins came in the past two weeks in North America. The Japanese player opted to play a few challengers events indoors and it worked out like a charm for him. He reached back-to-back finals, winning the first one but losing out in the final of the second one.

It gained him some valuable points and he is close to returning to the top 100 where he certainly belongs. His form heading into the Dallas Open is pretty great but his fitness might be an issue. He looked very flat in the 2nd final and it remains to be seen how well he recovers for the first round match in Dallas.

His play should favour the conditions in Dallas as it allows him to counter-punch pretty efficiently with his deadly left. He prefers playing on hard courts as well so he should be motivated well.

Krueger v Nishioka Prediction and Tip

This is a very interesting matchup where both players will have a chance to win. Krueger can play decent tennis when he plays in America and against the fatigued Nishioka, he will have chances. Whether he uses those chances is an entirely different question but the motivation should be there.

The Japanese player display strong form in the past couple of weeks. Most of that came indoors and this event is indoors as well. His back-to-back finals run will put a dent into his fitness but if he can recover well he will have a chance. He is the better player overall so this should be a good one.

I expect this one to be a close one. Krueger is good enough to keep it close but I seriously doubt he can take out Nishioka. The Japanese player has been too solid recently and is a level above Krueger. His fitness might let him down a bit and he might drop a set but not the match.

Tip: Nishioka to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
