Kasatkina, now ranked world number 21, enjoyed a resurgence last year when she reached four WTA finals; she went the distance in St. Petersburg and Phillip Island Trophy while reaching the final in Birmingham and San Jose.
Moreover, a majority of her losses from the previous season came only against the former or current top 10 players. Kasatkina has already proven on numerous occasions that she is well-equipped to handle the big guns and can make life difficult for Swiatek.

Swiatek, in a Brilliant Form
20-year-old Iga Swiatek is playing in Dubai for the second time in her career. Last season, she lost to Garbine Muguruza in the third round. This time around, the sixth-seeded Pole will hope to go further.
Her prospects of doing so are looking quite good; Swiatek has reached back to back semifinals in Adelaide 500 and the Australian Open in 2022.
That said, Swiatek is in the same bracket as Sofia Kenin, Petra Kvitova, Aryna Sabalenka, and Simona Halep. It’s a tricky half to navigate for any player, let alone the current World No. 8.
In 2021, Swiatek won the Adelaide International and Italian Open – along with reaching the fourth-round in the Wimbledon and US Open. She also made it to the year-end WTA Finals where she lost in the group stage.

Swiatek will start as the odds-on favourite but Kasatkina is just as likely to carve the upset. Given the price at which she is available – compared to her actual chances of winning – the Russian certainly makes for an appealing bet.
