Victoria Azarenka’s form in 2022 so far has been rather underwhelming although, she did reach the top 20 once again.
Currently ranked World No. 17, Azarenka lost in the quarterfinal in Adelaide to Iga Swiatek and made it as far as the fourth-round in the Australian Open before bowing to Barbora Krejcikova. Nonetheless, the two-time Grand Slam champion picked up some brilliant wins over Paula Badosa and Elina Svitolina on the hard courts in the land down under.
The 32-year-old ended the previous season on a terrific note with a runner-up feat in the Indian Wells Open. Over the year, she was also a semifinalist in Berlin and Doha and reached the mid-rounds at the French Open and Flushing Meadows.
Azarenka continued to build on her resurgence from the preceding year that saw her reach the final at the US Open and win the title in the Cincinnati Open.

Kudermetova Hoping to Build on Doubles Success
24-year-old Veronika Kudermetova is the new doubles World No. 9 – a feat she achieved after reaching the semis in the Melbourne Slam with Elise Mertens. This adds to her impressive doubles run last season where she reached the final in Wimbledon, Indian Wells Open, and Istanbul Cup – all with different players.
Moreover, Kudermetova was a runner-up in Melbourne 2 this year. She reached the final after benefiting from a walkover against Naomi Osaka but ultimately lost to Simona Halep in straight sets.
The Russian followed it with a third-round stint in the slam (losing to Maria Sakkari) before heading for her home tournament in the St. Petersburg Open. Her campaign there was put to an early end as she slipped to Belinda Bencic in three, well-fought sets.

Azarenka has the experience and a much superior pedigree; even if she is not at her best, this alone should help her reach the second round. Kudermetova, on her part, will need to bring her best foot forward and keep the errors on the low side if she wants to have a fight chance.
