Verdasco Coming off a Surprise Victory

Having made it to the quarterfinal at Buenos Aires last week, the 38-year-old Verdasco had come into this tournament with some confidence but was 11/10 to defeat Dusan Lajovic in his opener.

That Verdasco managed a straight-set win against a player ranked more than 130 places ahead of him on the tour is testimony to his experience and grit.

Verdasco needed an hour and 54 minutes to register a 7-6 (4), 6-3 win over Lajovic, saving seven of the nine break-points he faced in the match.

Aided by his opponent’s poor second serve percentage – Lajovic won just 29% of his second serve points – Verdasco broke him three times including a decisive one in the eighth game of the second set.

The question now is whether he can use that same experience to get past an opponent who is coming off a confidence-boosting victory himself as well.

Coria Blasts Past Garin

Having gone into his first round match at 7/5 odds to win it, Coria surprised quite a few fans and might have even surprised himself a tad when he clinched that encounter against Cristian Garin.

And that was not just to do with the fact Coria won but did it so effortlessly as well.

In a match which lasted just an hour and 16 minutes, Coria broke his opponent five times in the match, and saved both the break-points he faced to win 6-2, 6-0. Not to mention, Garin is ranked 19th in the world.

In fact, Coria won nine games in a row to clinch the tie and get one step closer to the quarterfinal appearance he had managed in this tournament in 2020. Can he now overcome the experience of Verdasco?

Verdasco v Coria Prediction and Tip
