Denis Shapovalov v Arthur Rinderknech Head to Head
Shapovalov beat the Frenchman in their only meeting in the quarterfinals in Stockholm last year.

Shapovalov Breezes Past Molcan
Top seed Denis Shapovalov shook off the Rotterdam setback, as he stormed into the quarterfinals of the Qatar Open with a straight sets win over Slovakia’s Alex Molcan.
The World No. 12, who was in brilliant form in Australia last month, suffered a first round defeat to World No. 137 Jiri Lehecka of the Czech Republic in Rotterdam last week. However, there was no such trouble in Doha for the 22-year-old lefty, who needed just 54 minutes to breeze past Molcan in the Round of 16 on Wednesday.
Dominating the contest from start to finish, Shapovalov didn’t face a break point, while he broke Molcan once in the first set and thrice in the second for a 6-6, 6-0 victory in just 54 minutes. The Canadian dropped just eight points on his serve in the entire match.
With the win, Shapovalov improved his 2022 record to 8-3. He played a key role in Canada’s ATP Cup triumph this year, finishing with a 3-1 record in singles, and then made a maiden quarterfinal appearance at the Australian Open.
Having lost at the last eight stage on his Doha debut last year, he will be aiming to reach the semifinals this year.

Rinderknech Rallies Past Bublik
For the second straight day in Doha, Arthur Rinderknech bounced back from a set down to stay alive in the tournament.
The World No. 61, who has struggled with injury following a brilliant start to the season, needed two hours and 27 minutes to beat Jiri Vesely 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4, in the first round on Tuesday.
A similar followed in the second round on Wednesday, with Rinderknech conceding the first set against Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik, but rebounding to win 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 6-4 in two hours and six minutes.
The Frenchman, who reached a maiden ATP final in Adelaide-2 this year, pulled out of the Australian Open second round contest against Daniel Evans with a wrist injury and then withdrew from the Rotterdam Open before the start of the tournament.
Making his debut in Doha this year, the 26-year-old had 18 break points against Bublik and he converted six of them. In contrast, Bublik had just five chances to break his opponent’s serve and he took two of those chances. Bublik struck five more aces than Rinderknech’s 10, but the Frenchman fared better when it came to winning points on first serve, winning 75% points on the back of first delivery.
