Marketa Vondrousova v Dayana Yastremska Head to Head

The tally is tied at 1-1 with Yastremska winning their last bout in the 2018 WTA Budapest.

Vondrousova finds her Rhythm

Starting as a qualifier in Dubai, Marketa Vondrousova moved past the likes of Ena Shibahara, Claire Liu, and Yulia Putintseva to reach the main draw.

While the Czech was handed a tricky opener in the form of Danielle Collins, she benefited from the American’s retirement from the match – despite taking a lead of 6-2 in the first set. That walkthrough effectively opened up the field for Vondrousova.

The 22-year-old then moved on to rout the Russian Varvara Gracheva with 6-2, 6-0 in just 54 minutes. The 2019 French Open finalist won an incredible 9 games in a row to reach the quarters.

This marks Vondrousova’s first-such run of 2022. Up until now, World No. 38 was beaten in the early rounds in Adelaide, Melbourne, and St. Petersburg.

However, she is no stranger to this kind of performance. Last season, she started the year on a shaky note but found her groove in the Olympics where she bagged the silver medal. After that, Vondrousova reached the penultimate rounds in Chicago (WTA 250 and 500), Luxembourg, and Moscow.

Yastremska Stuns Krejcikova

Dayana Yastremksa has delivered one of the biggest wins of her career by knocking out the number two seed, last year’s WTA Dubai runner-up Barbora Krejcikova.

The Ukrainian put up a commanding performance, beating the World No. 3 with 6-3, 7-6(3). The win follows a three-set grind against Irina-Camelia Begu in the opener.

This marks only the third time since July that Yastremska has reached the quarterfinal in a WTA event. Over the last six months, she had to settle for early-round exits. As a result, she also lost her grip in the rankings – slipping down to the #131 position.

Before the pandemic and the doping suspension, Yastremska was ranking in the top 40 and had bagged three singles titles already. The 21-year-old last reached a final in Adelaide International 2020.

Yastremska has done well to make up for lost ground in 2022. With this kind of confidence, it is only a matter of time before she regains her former footing.

Vondrousova v Yastremska Prediction and Tip

Yastremska will start this match as the underdog. While she may lack momentum, her skills and pedigree put her on even footing with Vondrousova. Plus, she is also available at a decent price and her chances of winning this one are not too low either.

Tip: Yastremska to win: 11/8 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
