Pablo Andujar v Diego Schwartzman Head to Head
Andujar and Schwartzman played once before but that match came a long time ago in 2015 with the Argentinian scoring the win in 3 sets.

Andujar the Savvy Veteran
It was only a year ago when Pablo Andujar came back from two sets down against Dominic Thiem at the French Open. The Spanish player is enjoying his 2nd youth at age 36 and his play at the Golden Swing has been more than impressive.
Wins over Cuevas and Golden Swing master Albert Ramos are fairly impressive and should have provided Andujar with much confidence ahead of the clash with Schwartzman. The Spaniard is an excellent clay player who moves very well and is capable of hitting shots with a lot of precision.
Against Schwartzman, he will need all his skills to work properly if he wants to stand a chance. Their only match in 2015 was very close but both have changed significantly since then. It will be a hard task but Andujar will believe himself capable and that’s half the job done.

Schwartzman Looking for Trophies
After falling short at his native event in Buenos Aires, Schwartzman will hope to lift the trophy at the Rio Open. The final against Casper Ruud was a very good one but after winning the opening set, Schwartzman fell apart in the next two matches showing fatigue.
Getting into the final drained the Argentinian of a lot of energy and he would like to avoid something like that happening in Rio. In order to do that he will need to defeat Andujar quickly. It’s highly unlikely that he will be able to do it considering the way Andujar is playing at the moment.
Schwartzman defeated Martinez 6-1 6-1 in the first round but that match lasted over 90 minutes. Only the first three games took nearly 38 minutes and that’s a recipe for disaster if you are Schwartzman. Confidence will be high and he is the better player but he will need to execute.
Andujar v Schwartzman Prediction and Tip
The only match they played came a very long time ago in 2015 so that match can hardly be used as a prediction for this one. Both of these players have played rather well in 2022 with Schwartzman having more victories due to playing more events.
The Argentinian is better current from coming off of a final run in Buenos Aires but he will certainly face stiff competition from Andujar who will believe himself capable of winning the match. he has no reason to doubt himself after two strong wins.
One thing that could prove a factor is fitness with Schwartzman being in peak conditions compared to Andujar. Both can play long matches but long rallies is another matter. I think Diego will have an advantage there and that will prove key. Take Schwartzman to win this one.
