Liudmila Samsonova v Alize Cornet Head to Head

The pair have met once before, at the Limoges Open in 2019, Samsonova winning in three sets.

Samsonova Still Looking for Best Form in 2022

Samsonova enjoyed a career breakthrough last year, winning her first WTA title on grass at the German Open.

She would then go on to reach the semi-finals in both Luxembourg and Courmayeur, but, so far, there have been few signs of that form this year.

The Russian lost her opening round match at the Melbourne Summer Set, and then improved by reaching the quarter-final in Adelaide where she lost in three sets to Madison Keys.

At the Australian Open, she lost in the second round to the Czech, Marketa Vondrousova, and then did not play again until Dubai, where she was beaten in the second round  of the qualifying competition.

Australian Open Quarter-Finalist Cornet

Cornet has won six WTA career titles, but she had been two years without a final before losing to Elina Svitolina in Chicago last August.

A quarter-final in Luxembourg and a run to the semi-finals in Tenerife helped close the year, but there was little hint of what was to come at the Australian Open where she reached the quarter-final of a Grand Slam for the first time in her career, knocking out both Garbine Muguruza and Simona Halep along the way, before finally losing to Danielle Collins.

In her one event sine then, she was beaten in the first round in St. Petersburg by Elsie Mertens.

She has been given a wildcard in Doha.

Samsonova v Cornet Prediction and Tip

Although Cornet reached the last eight in Melbourne, that was something of an outlier in terms of recent results, and Samsonova will start the favourite for this match.
