Andrey Rublev v Dan Evans Head to Head

This has been an interesting rivalry with three previous encounters yielding two wins for Evans and just one for Rublev.

It was Rublev who won their first match in Adelaide in 2020, but that very season saw Evans strike back with back to back victories in Dubai and Cincinnati.

Before that, there had been two matches at the Challenger level and it’s 1-1 there.

Rublev Lifts Marseille Title

While it did not start off in the best way for Rublev, his season has improved with time. Having had to miss out on a few tournaments before Australian Open, the Russian player lost in the third round at the season’s opening Grand Slam.

A semifinal at the Rotterdam Open was an improved showing before he came into Marseille wanting to do a lot better.

There were a few struggles obviously, but Rublev managed to get past Richard Gasquet, Lucas Pouille and Benjamin Bonzi in difficult three-setters before pulling past Felix Auger-Aliassime in the title-decider to win the tournament.

It was the same Auger-Aliassime who had defeated him in Rotterdam just a week before that.

Rublev will now be a heavy favourite to continue with his winning streak.

Evans Hoping to Overcome Doha Ouster

Evans had kick-started the season with a five-match winning streak that included three successive victories at ATP Cup and a semifinal appearance at the Sydney International.

This has, however, been followed by a couple of lacklustre showings at Australian Open and in Doha.

First, a straight-set third round exit at the season-opening Grand Slam where he had a walkover in the second and then a second round defeat last week in Doha to Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina wouldn’t have made for good viewing.

And he now begins his Dubai campaign against a player who is difficult to surmount at best of times, least of all when he has just won his first title of the season.

Can Evans surprise his opponent?

Rublev v Evans Prediction and Tip

The only factor which could go in favour of Evans is his opponent would be coming right off a match on Sunday played in another continent. Can he take advantage of that?
