Jessica Pegula v Katerina Siniakova Head to Head

The head to head tally between the two stands at 1-1 with Siniakova getting the last laugh. She defeated Pegula in the 2021 Bad Homburg Open in three sets.

Pegula is on Shaky Grounds

Jessica Pegula has got the work cut out for her in Doha. While she is the current World No. 14 – a career-high for her – there is a very real possibility that she may lose that position this week.

Even though she reached the quarterfinal in the Australian Open – an impressive feat by all means – she hasn’t done well in other WTA events. Case in point, she lost in the first round in Melbourne 2 and Sydney, and in round two in Dubai last week to Ons Jabeur.

Pegula was a semifinalist here last season which means she has a fair bit of ranking points to defend. Her recent inconsistency doesn’t bode well for her, especially in a bracket comprising Paula Badosa, Simona Halep, and Maria Sakkari.

Siniakova Finds Reprieve in Dubai

Doubles No. 1 Katerina Siniakova snapped her five-match losing streak in Dubai last week. However, she is yet to bag a main-draw WTA win in 2022.

Starting as a qualifier, the 25-year-old Czech overcame Jaqueline Cristian and Jil Teichmann in the prelims before meeting Garbine Muguruza in the round of 32. Siniakova put up a good fight, forcing the Spaniard to fight for three sets before going down 6-7(5), 6-2, 2-6.

While her singles resume is not as impressive as the doubles, she has the skills needed to make up for it.

Speaking of doubles, Siniakova won the Australian Open and Melbourne Set 2 titles in January. Now, it looks like she is focussing more on the singles side of the game as she hasn’t enrolled in the doubles draw in Doha.

Last year, her best results on the circuit came in the form of a quarterfinal stint in Prague and Cleveland.

Pegula v Siniakova Prediction and Tip

Pegula doesn’t seem to be at her best, giving Siniakova a good chance to snap out of her rut. At the most, the Czech can challenge the American and take the match to three sets to force her into submission. As for the final winner, Pegula’s overall pedigree makes her an odds-on favourite.
