Sharapova didn’t look hassled by Caroline Wozniacki’s comments yesterday as she wore down American teenager Sofia Kenin to make the round of 16. She won 7-5, 6-2 after having faced successive three-setters in her previous two rounds to make it to her first Grand Slam fourth round since the 2016 Australian Open.
Later when she was quizzed about Wozniacki’s comments on her scheduling, Sharapova said, what mattered to her was that she was in the fourth round.
“All that matters to me is I’m in the fourth round,” Maria Sharapova said of Caroline Wozniacki’s comments.

Another American, and former winner Venus Williams had a better day at the US Open than Kenin as she advanced as well, winning 6-3, 6-4 against Maria Sakkari.
Third seeded Garbine Muguruza had an easy third round win over Magdalena Rybarikova, brushing her aside 6-1, 6-1. Muguruza, who won the Wimbledon earlier this year, hasn’t been really tested in the competition so far, but will now take on a bigger challenge Petra Kvitova in her next match.
