Sloane Stephens v Daria Saville Head to Head

They played twice before with Stephens winning both matches but one of them was a retirement. They both came a very long time ago with the 2nd one being in 2016 in Charleston on clay. Stephens won 6-4 6-3.

First Wins for Stephens

Sloane Stephens played only one event before coming to Mexico and it was at the Australian Open where she lost to Emma Raducanu. The American opted to wait a while until getting back to the court opting to use Guadalajara as preparation for the upcoming North American stretch.

It seems like it was a wise decision as the American si looking energized at this event played some very decent tennis. She scored two easy wins over super talent Brenda Fruhvirtova and veteran Chloe Paquet to secure the quarterfinal. Neither match was that much competitive as Stephens was clearly the better player and played like it.

The American is not displaying a brilliant level of tennis but she is warming up for the upcoming bigger events and that was the purpose of coming to Guadalajara.

Return to Form for Saville

Daria Saville was once a top 20 player but those times are long gone. The Australian Player was once an electric player and while not there yer she did show some of that this week. In the first round she player a dramatic match with Emma Raducanu where the Brit was forced to retire after over 3 hours of play.

After a two day’s rest, the Australian took on Caroline Dolehide and routinely defeated here 6-1 6-3 to move on to the quarterfinal. Saville is far away from her Gavrilova days and level but the wins here certainly should bring her more confidence heading into the Stephens matchup.

If she continues to play like this continuously she will swiftly be back inside the top 100 and who knows if she downs Stephens perhaps she might event lift her 2nd career trophy as well. Consistency will be key and she will need to be sharp as she was in the previous rounds.

Stephens v Saville Prediction and Tip

They played two matches before with Stephens winning both of them but that was a very long time ago. Since then both players changed dramatically and neither is playing as good as they were playing back then. Stephens is obviously the more consistent one that speaks volumes about both of them.

Both were really good at this event with Saville showing a higher level at times. Obviously, her play was up and down most of the time hence why the dramatic marathon match with Raducanu with Stephens being more consistent. It should be a very good and entertaining matchup.

Stephens is considered the favourite and with good reason. The level of consistency is an important factor in tennis and Saville just has not shown much lately. Yes, she is playing a good event but I think the American will find a way to get the job done.

Tip: Stephens to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
