Beatriz Haddad Maia v Xinyu Wang Head to Head
It is 1-0 to Maia, who last defeated her Chinese adversary in the quarterfinal of an ITF event in Caldas de Rainha in straight sets.

Wang Routs Li
20-year-old Xinyu Wang needed just 58 minutes to carve the Ann Li upset with 6-2, 6-1. In what was one of her most clinical performances, Wang won 71% of the points behind the first service and bagged five games in a row to seal the deal.
This marks the second time in 2022 that the Chinese has made it to the second round in a WTA event. Her last stint was in Guadalajara where she fell to Anna Kalinskaya in three sets. That said, she did reach the doubles final there with Zhu Lin.
She also had a similar run in the Australian Open where she was beaten by Aryna Sabalenka, but not before pushing the match to three sets.
Currently ranked World No. 90, Wang has made it clear that she wants to go big on the tour. Her highlights from last season include runner-up feats in Columbus Challenger and ITF Charlottesville and a few mid-round stints in WTA events.

Maia Survives Udvardy
Beatriz Haddad Maia had to work hard to earn the win in Monterrey. Playing Hungary’s Panna Udvardy, she won the match 1-6, 6-1, 7-5.
Similar to Wang, this also marks one of the few instances where the Brazilian has made it this far in a WTA event. The 25-year-old delivered such a run in the Melbourne Slam, where she ultimately lost to Simona Halep.
In other events, Maia was stopped in the first round after clearing the qualifiers. However, she reached the doubles final in Sydney and the major with Anna Danilina. The duo won the trophy in the former but had to settle for the runner-up feat in the latter.
Last season, Maia took home five ITF titles and ended the year with a place in the top 100.
Wang v Maia Prediction and Tip
This match can swing either way. Both players have got some momentum and are in a fairly similar form. Maia has the experience but Wang has the grit to perform. This should be an entertaining one.
