Danka Kovinic v Jil Belen Teichmann Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before.

This will be the first match between the 27-year-old Montenegrin, and her Swiss opponent, who is three years younger.

Kovinic Scratching for Form

Kovinic is a player whose form fluctuates considerably.

She has been a top fifty player and appeared in three finals, most recently in Charleston last year, but, at the moment, she is finding life on court difficult.

The Montenegrin also has a poor record on American hard courts, and the only previous time she won a match at Indian Wells was back in 2016 when she reached the second round in California.

However, she might take heart from her exploits at the Australian Open where she knocked out the US Open Champion Emma Radecanu before losing to Simona Halep in the third round.

Her one tournament since then did not go so well. She was soundly beaten by Arantxa Rus of the Netherlands in Lyon last week in the first round, winning just two games.

Teichmann’s Good Recent Record in WTA 1000 Events

Teichmann had a good record in WTA 1000 events in 2021, reaching the semi-finals in Dubai and the final in Cincinnati, when she was beaten by the world number one Ashleigh Barty.

That was her fourth senior career final, although it is more than two years since she won a singles event on the clay of Palermo, although she did taste success in doubles at the European Open in Hamburg last July,

She had a disappointing start to the year, losing in the second round of the Australian Open and the first round in Adelaide and St. Petersburg, but results have picked up since then.

The Swiss number two came through three rounds of qualifying to make the main draw in Dubai where she reached the quarter-final before losing to Veronika Kudermetova in three sets.

Another quarter-final followed in Doha, this time losing to Arnya Sabalenka, the world number three.

Kovinic v Teichmann Prediction and Tip

Teichmann has a good recent record in prestigious tournaments like Indian Wells and, against an opponent who tends to struggle on American hard courts, she will start the clear favourite.

Tip: Teichmann to win in straight sets: 1/2 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
