Federico Coria v Pablo Cuevas Head to Head

The pair have played each other twice before, both matches in clay court events. Coria won in straight sets in Belgrade in 2021, and in three in Buenos Aires last month.

Second Indian Wells Appearance for Coria

Coria is much better known as a clay court player.

He reached his first senior final on that surface last year at the Swedish Open, losing to Casper Ruud, and won two Challenger circuit clay court tournaments in 2021, and appeared in three other finals.

This is his second appearance at Indian Wells – he lost in the first round last year.

The Argentine began his year in Australia, but was thrashed in the first round in Melbourne by Gael Monfils.

Although he was also beaten in the first round in Cordoba, he had greater success in Buenos Aires and Rio, reaching the quarter-finals of each.

After a disappointing defeat in the first round in Santiago, he formed part of the Argentine team that played the Czech Republic in the Davis Cup last weekend, beating Vit Kopriva, the world number 165, in the one singles’ match he played.

Cuevas Looking to Make Use of His Experience

Cuevas, who takes his place in the main draw courtesy of a Protected Ranking, is now at the veteran stage of a career, which includes a Grand Slam win and two Masters titles, both in doubles, and both on clay.

He made his first appearance at Indian Wells in the singles back in 2010, and his best result came in 2017 when he made the quarter-finals in California. The Uruguayan also reached the fourth round the following year.

However, although he has played sparingly, he has yet to win a singles match this year.

He was beaten by Coria in the first round in Buenos Aires, and then suffered another first round defeat in Rio.

Last weekend, he played for Uruguay in the Davis Cup against New Zealand, but lost both his matches to men ranked much lower than him, beaten first by Ajeet Rai and then Jose Rubin Statham, losing in straight sets each time.

Coria v Cuevas Prediction and Tip

This contest features two men who are happier on clay, but, given Cuevas has yet to win a singles match this year, he will start the clear underdog.

Tip: Coria to win: 11/18 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
