Andy Murray v Taro Daniel Head to Head

There have two meetings between these two on the ATP circuit and it’s 1-1 on head to head.

Daniel had defeated Murray at Australian Open in the second round, with the Scot getting revenge in Doha, both these matches coming this year itself.

Earlier in 2016, they had also met in the Davis Cup and Murray had won that in straight sets.

Murray 8-6 This Season

It’s has been the kind of season that wouldn’t make Murray terribly happy but the good news is his fitness issues have been kept at bay and he is winning matches.

Still ranked 88th in the world, Murray needed a wildcard to make it to the main draw here but shouldn’t take away from his performances so far in 2022.

There was an appearance in the final at the Sydney International where he overcame the likes of Nikoloz Basilashvili, David Goffin and Reilly Opelka before falling to Aslan Karatsev in the title decider.

Following that, Murray has three successive first round wins but defeats in the second round. One of them, a 6-0, 6-1 loss to Roberto Bautista-Agut, would have hurt but Murray’s tenacity has never been in doubt.

Expecting him to come back strongly here.

Daniel Wins Qualifiers in Straight Sets

Other than his first round defeat to Murray in Doha, Daniel has had a few solid performances under his belt already this year.

In all the other tournaments he has featured in this season, Daniel has had to make it to the main draw as a qualifier and he has done that remarkably – winning nine qualifying rounds spread across those competitions.

At Adelaide, he defeated Lorenzo Musetti to make it to the second round, following which a stunning showing at Australian Open saw him make it to the third round there. It has been his career-best Grand Slam performance.

Can he now overcome Murray to help him emulate his Indian Wells Open showing from last season?
