Iga Swiatek v Anhelina Kalinina Head to Head

This will be their first meeting on the WTA Tour.

Swiatek, Fresh Off a Title Run

World No. 4 Iga Swiatek is having herself quite a season. Having started the year with back to back semifinal runs in Adelaide and the Australian Open, she most recently moved on to win the WTA 1000 title in Doha.

That was the fourth title of her career – and her third Premier title. The 20-year-old Pole handsomely outclassed her opponents in the Qatar capital, dispatching the likes of Aryna Sabalenka, Maria Sakkari, and Anett Kontaveit in straight sets. Swiatek lost just 14 games in the process and couldn’t have asked for better preparation for the BNP Paribas Open.

This is only her second time in the valley; last season she made it as far as the fourth round before bowing out to Jelena Ostapenko.

Seeded number three for this year’s event, Swiatek finds herself in a tricky section comprising Clara Tauson, Angelique Kerber, and Daria Kasatkina. Given her form, it shouldn’t be that difficult for her to overcome these players.

Kalinina, Boasting ITF Experience

Anhelina Kalinina started the 2021 season as World No. 165 – she eventually finished the year as #52.

On the back of five ITF titles, one runner-up feat in WTA Budapest, and a couple of second-round appearances in the French Open and US Open, the 25-year-old Ukrainian scaled massive heights on the tour to find herself with the elites.

Although Kalinina’s main tour experience (and the subsequent ability to deliver big wins) is fairly limited, that should change with time as she plays in more upper-tier events.

She hasn’t been particularly impressive in 2022 so far – she lost in the first round in Melbourne Set and Australian Open while in Adelaide International, she made it as far as the second.

As for her stint in Indian Wells, this is only the second time that Kalinina is playing here. Last season, she fell in the opener but this time, she managed to go a step beyond by defeating Clara Burel 6-3, 6-2.

Swiatek v Kalinina Prediction and Tip

Although Kalinina is capable of putting up a fight, Swiatek’s superior play and pedigree should prove to be too big of a challenge to overcome. Expect the Pole to win this one.

Tip: Swiatek to win in over 18.5 games: 5/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
