Delbonis Struggles on Hard Courts May Continue

World No. 34 Federico Delbonis is 6-7 this season, with his best coming at home in the Buenos Aires Open, where he was a semifinalist.

The 31-year-old is a vastly experienced player on clay, and has captured both his career titles on the surface. But bring him outside his comfort zone and Delbonis tends to struggle big time. A 28-72 career record on hard courts is a testament of that. He is 2-3 on the surface this year, with both wins coming against lowly ranked opponents at the ATP Cup.

The Argentine struggled against better opponents, falling to Poland’s Kamil Majchrzak at the ATP Cup, Denis Kudla in Sydney and Pedro Martinez at the Australian Open.

Delbonis is 6-7 at Indian Wells and his best came in 2016 when he reached the fourth round.

Kyrgios Breezes Past Baez

Nick Kyrgios showed no signs of knee pain that has affected him over the past one and a half year as he breezed past Argentina’s Sebastian Baez in the first round of the Indian Wells Open on Friday.

Ranked 132nd in the world, the former World No. 13 in playing in just his second tournament of the season. In his only other appearance he won the opening round against Liam Broady at the Australian Open but fell to Daniil Medvedev in four in the second round.

Kyrgios made up for the singles disappointment in Melbourne by winning his maiden Grand Slam doubles title along with partner Thanasi Kokkinakis.

On Friday, the six-time tour-level champion got off to a flying start at Indian Wells, beating Baez 6-4, 6-0 in just over an hour. Kyrgios converted half of eight break points and saved all the four that he faced to win the match with ease.

This is the Aussie’s fifth appearance at Indian Wells and his best was a quarterfinal finish in 2017.

Delbonis v Kyrgios Prediction and Tip

Delbonis is the seeded player, but Kyrgios has a better chance of winning this contest. He is looking in good shape and showed great form in the first match. Expect the Aussie to advance with a straight sets win.

Tip: Kyrgios to win in straight sets: 8/13 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
