Alexander Zverev v Tommy Paul Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two players with Paul having defeated Zverev at the 2020 Acapulco Open. He won 6-3, 6-4 to reach the quarterfinals.

Zverev Returns after Acapulco Default

He might have apologised for his actions in Acapulco but all eyes will still be on him despite that.

What will be interesting to see is if he can overcome those off-court shenanigans to kick-start his campaign here in Indian Wells with a performance that helps him keep his focus on the tennis rather than everything else that’s happening.

Zverev did take to court over the last weekend when he played in the Davis Cup, defeating both his opponents Thiago Monteiro and Thiago Seyboth Wild in straight sets.

That had followed his fourth round exit at Australian Open and a finals loss at the hands of Alexander Bublik in Montpellier, making this is a tepid start to his year.

He has a difficult opponent first up and Zverev could be tested here.

Paul Downs Kukushkin in Opener

Paul has one title in his career, one that came late last year and a consistent start to this year’s campaign has helped him gain a few ranks, getting to his career-best 39th in the world.

And in disposing off Mikhail Kukushkin in the first round in straight sets, Paul showed why he has been tipped to be one of the players to watch out.

In a match that lasted an hour and 31 minutes, Paul registered a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Kukushkin, overcoming a minor blip in the second set to complete the win.

An early break in the first set is all he needed to seal it while losing his serve in the second before Paul broke Kukushkin in the seventh game to end up a winner.

This followed four different tournaments in which Paul had earlier won back to back matches before losing in the third this season. Can he make it two successive wins here as well?

Zverev v Paul Prediction and Tip

Zverev is 2/9 to win this but expecting Paul to put up a solid showing and carve out a respectable match out of this one.

Tip: Games Handicap Paul +3.5: 6/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
