Casper Ruud v Nick Kyrgios Head to Head

They played once before and it came in 2019 in Rome when Kyrgios was defaulted from the match after throwing a tantrum on the court. It was 1-1 in sets.

Going Good for Ruud

Casper Ruud made tremendous progress last year when he shocked many with his high level away from his preferred clay courts. The Norwegian cruised all the way inside the top 10 playing at the ATP Finals as well. 2022 has been good for Ruud who is 8-2 on the year (7-1 on ATP tour) with one trophy.

That trophy came in Buenos Aires on clay and since then Ruud has played a couple of matches and mostly on hard courts. In Indian Wells, he bested Eubanks in round 2 to move on at the event. The Norwegian plays a very wholesome type of tennis where he is very solid everywhere.

Nothing jumps out much with his forehand a real weapon on clay and pretty solid on hard courts as well. His game reminds some people of Nadal who was his idol but it’s not that similar. Overall he is playing really good and consistent tennis which has been the case last year as well.

Kyrgios’ Redemption Arc

Nick Kyrgios frustrated many over the years including his fans and people who did not really like him. A talent like we did not see in a very long time, the Australia nearly destroyed his career with the lack of commitment to tennis. Now a couple of years later, Kyrgios describes himself as a new man who is finally enjoying his life and tennis.

It’s certainly showing on the court where he is displaying a high level and overall confidence that just gives him star power, unlike many other tennis players. He won the Australian Open doubles titles and arrived in Indian Wells refreshed and ready to play.

Strong wins in both round 1 and round 2 show a high comfort level on these courts and it suits his game. He admitted to being very inspired and ready to compete which promises to be a great with a match against Casper Ruud incoming.

Ruud v Kyrgios Prediction and Tip

For those that follow tennis closely it’s well known that Kyrgios and Ruud have some history. They have publicly insulted each other in various interviews with Kyrgios calling Ruud a boring player and Ruud calling Kyrgios an idiot.

It started before their Rome clash and it escalated after that with Kyrgios throwing a tantrum that saw him defaulted and Ruud ‘celebrating the win’ emphatically. Things have cooled down a bit but expect a very high-octane competitive match from both in this one.

There will certainly be things bigger than tennis involved and both are playing so well at the moment, it simply promises to be a great match. Stylistically Kyrgios should have the advantage as Ruud does tend to play it safe at times. Against Kyrgios that can be trouble but it will depend on Nick’s level. Inspired Nick should win this, but how inspired will he be. Hard to tell.

Tip: Kyrgios to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
