Last year, Cameron Norrie came back from a set down to beat Georgia’s Nikoloz Basilashvili and claim his first-ever Masters 1000 title. The defending champion repeated the performance against Basilashvili on Monday. This time it was a third round matchup, with Norrie winning with an almost identical scoreline.
Norrie had beaten the Georgian 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 in the Indian Wells final last year. On Monday, the British lefty won 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 to improve to 12-6 in 2022. He has already won a title at Delray Beach and had a runner-up finish in Acapulco.
Norrie hit 16 fewer winners than his opponent’s 28, but he was far more disciplined when it came to unforced errors, making just 15 of them against Basilashvili’s 53. The Briton converted six of 11 break points and saved two of five to improve his head-to-head record against Basilashvili to 3-0.
The World No. 12 had eased past Spain’s Pedro Martinez with a 6-3, 6-3 win in the first round.

Brooksby Knocks Out Tsitsipas
Jenson Brooksby’s sparkling form continued as the World No. 43 earned his first top 10 win by defeating World No. 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas on Monday.
Brooksby needed two hours and four minutes to beat the fifth seed 1-6, 6-3, 6-2. The American dominated the first set, dropping just five points on his serve and breaking Tsitsipas twice to take the first set with ease. The Greek started the second strongly, racing to a 3-0 lead with a break in the second game and then protected the advantage till the end of the second to force the decider.
Brooksby found the momentum again in the third set. Racing to 4-0 lead before going on to win the contest.
Brroksby, who was a finalist at the Dallas Open, was knocked out in Acapulco in the first round, but has found form in Indian Wells. He began the tournament with a 6-1, 6-4 victory against Spain’s Roberto Carballés Baena and then handed the 25th seed Karen Khachanov a 6-0, 6-3 shellacking in the Round of 64.
This is just his third main draw appearance at a Masters 1000 tournament and the 21-year-old has already bettered his previous best, which was a second round appearance at Indian Wells last year.
Norrie v Brooksby Prediction and Tip
This should be an intriguing battle between two in-form players. While Norrie is the seeded player and also much higher ranked, Brooksby has shown his ability to punch above his weight. This will be his first tour-level meeting against a left-hander. While Norrie will be expected to win, Brooksby will take him to three sets.
