Iga Swiatek v Angelique Kerber Head to Head

Surprisingly, this is the first meeting between the two players on the WTA Tour.

Swiatek Outlasts Tauson

Number three seed Iga Swiatek headed into the fourth round following a three-set thriller with Clara Tauson. In that battle of teenagers, Swiatek was tested but she came out as the winner with 6-7(3), 6-2, 6-1.

Before that, the Pole found herself in a similar slogfest – this time against Ukraine’s Anhelina Kalinina. The 20-year-old solved that riddle with 5-7, 6-0, 6-1.

So far in 2022, Swiatek has been in sensational form; her record is 14-3 (excluding Indian Wells) and her highlights include semifinal runs in Adelaide and Melbourne Slam, and a title feat in Doha. Throughout these events, the current world number four has defeated some big names like Anett Kontaveit, Maria Sakkari, Aryna Sabalenka, and Victoria Azarenka.

With this kind of momentum and consistency, Swiatek will fancy a deep run in Tennis Paradise. She has already matched her best showing in the valley by reaching the round of 16.

Kerber Enjoying her Revival

World No. 16 Angelique Kerber has been impressive so far in the BNP Paribas Open.

It may also seem surprising to some extent, given that the German fell in the opening round in her sole two events this season – the Australian Open and most recently, WTA Doha.

However, Kerber has a rich pedigree in the valley – she has made it to the semifinal twice, final once, and was also a quarterfinalist in last year’s edition. Plus, as a former world number one with three Grand Slam trophies under her belt, the 34-year-old should be optimistic about her chances.

With a bye into round two, her path has been that of least resistance. After beating Qinwen Zheng in three sets, Kerber stormed past Daria Kasatkina 6-2, 6-1 with a statement win.

Kerber v Swiatek Prediction and Tip

Kerber is well-experienced and has obviously played more professional tennis than Swiatek since turning pro in the early 2000s. Granted that she is not entirely consistent, but she is more than equipped to put up a solid fight and resistance against the Pole. Expect this to be an entertaining one.
