Rublev Extends Streak to 12-0

The unstoppable Andrey Rublev extended his winning streak to 12 matches on Thursday as he rolled into the quarterfinals of the Indian Wells Masters for the first time in his fourth attempt.

Yet to drop a set this week, Rublev knocked out 11th seed Hubert Hurkacz of Poland 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 in the fourth round. Rublev won 92% (33 of 36) points on the back of his first serve, converted two of eight break points and saved one of two in the match. He struck just 23 winners against the Pole’s 29, but made 15 fewer unforced errors than Hurkacz’s 25.

The World No. 7 is now three wins away from a third consecutive title this year. He triumphed in Marseille and Dubai over the last two tournaments, thus taking his career tally to 10 titles.

Having never gone past the third round at Indian Wells, Rublev has begun well this year. The 24-year-old defeated Germany’s Dominik Koepfer 7-5, 6-4 in the second round and then made quick work of American Fraces Tiafoe with a 6-3, 6-4 victory.

Dimitrov Looking To Reach Another Indian Wells Semifinal

Last year’s semifinalist Grigor Dimitrov is looking impressive once again at Indian Wells and is one win away from matching his 2021 result, which remains his best so far in the ATP 1000 tournament.

The 33rd seed Bulgarian reached the quarterfinals on Thursday with a straight sets win over the 23rd seed John Isner.

Dimitrov got the only break of the match in the fourth game of the first set to go one-up. The second set was a tight one with both players holding serves. It eventually needed a tiebreak, which Dimitrov won to seal the match 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) in one hour and 34 minutes.

The win improved Dimitrov to 7-4 for the season. He was a semifinalist in Melbourne and a quarterfinalist in Delray Beach this season.

The eight-time tour-level champion had beaten Australia’s Jordan Thompson 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 on the second round, and also won his Round of 32 match in straight sets, defeating Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik 6-3, 6-4 in just 70 minutes.
