Greet Minnen v Daria Saville Head to Head

Saville has won both their previous meetings. One of those wins came at the ITF Circuit in 2020 and the other at the Billie Jean King Cup in 2021.

Can Minnen Replicate Her ITF Form on the Tour?

World no. 81 has mostly featured in the ITF Circuit this year and has dished out impressive results at that level. She was a champion in Altenkirchen, a runner-up in Nur-Sultan and a quarterfinalist in Grenoble.

When it comes to the WTA Tour, the Belgian is 0-2 in main draw and 0-3 including qualifiers. She will be making her WTA 1000 main draw debut in Miami. The 24-year-old, nine time ITF champion has done well in doubles on the tour but is yet to find her footing in singles.

In her two main draw appearances this year, Minnen lost to Kamilla Rakhimova in Melbourne and to Jaqueline Cristian at the Australian Open.

Most recently, Minnen was the top seed in the Indian Wells qualifiers, but she fell to Japan’s Mai Hontama in the first qualifying round. Coming up against a player she is yet to beat won’t do her confidence a lot of good, but she will still try to get her first tour-level main draw win of the season on Tuesday.

Test of Saville’s Fitness

Once ranked No. 20 in the world, Australia’s Daria Saville saw a steep decline over the last three seasons, having been bothered by an achilles tendon injury and needing a surgery on it last year.

The Aussie meanwhile has found some form this year, and has made considerable progress in the rankings. She started the year as World No. 421 but has climbed to No. 249 this week, thanks to her strong performance at the Indian Wells Open. But just when she was looking dangerous, she had to pull out of her fourth round match against Maria Sakkari due to a thigh injury. It will be interesting to see if she recovers completely for her opener in Miami, where she had reached the fourth round on debut in 2015, which still remains her best in the tournament.

Following a 0-3 start from three tour-level tournaments at home this year, Savilla struck form in Guadalajara, winning the first two rounds, before falling in the quarterfinals to Sloane Stephens.

She carried the momentum at Indian Wells, qualifying for the main draw and then going on to upset Zhang Shuai, Ons Jabeur and Elise Mertens in the first three rounds respectively.

The wins against the ninth seed Jabeur and the 20th seed Mertens came in three sets for the qualifier, who aimed to reach a first WTA 1000 quarterfinal since the Italian Open in 2017 but was forced to withdraw against Sakkari.

If she regains full fitness, Savilla will be tough to beat in Miami.

Minnen v Saville Prediction and Tip

Savilla seems to have regained her form and having won twice against Minnen, she will be the favourite to extend her perfect record against the Belgian.
