Borna Coric v Fernando Verdasco Head to Head

There have been two previous encounters between these players and both have won one apiece. Coric won at their Paris Masters encounter in 2015 before Verdasco had his revenge in that same tournament in 2019. Both those matches were first round encounters too.

Coric Resumes Tennis in Indian Wells

Coric played all of three tournaments last year, his semifinal appearance at Rotterdam in March signalling the start of a break because of fitness related concerns.

This year, he did not start things off till about two weeks ago when he got himself a wildcard entry at the Indian Wells Masters. Drawn to take on Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Coric did manage to grab the first set in a tie-breaker but then fell to a three-set defeat in that opener.

Once ranked 12th in the world, Coric has fallen to 161st right now because of his lack of appearance but his showing in Indian Wells should give him bit of a boost.

Question is if Coric can show the kind of form he had when he made the quarterfinals in Miami the last time he had taken to court here.

Verdasco Yet to Win a Hard Court Main Draw Match

A former world number seven, Verdasco is now 123rd in the world and is struggling to make things count in main draws of hard court competitions. Which is also why Verdasco has avoided featuring in a lot of such tournaments this season.

In fact, in the only ATP competition he featured in, in 2022, in Acapulco, Verdasco lost in the first round to John Isner in February.

Since then, Verdasco has participated in two Challenger competitions on hard courts – at Monterrey and Phoenix. At the former, he went on to win the title while at the latter, the Spaniard finished a quarterfinalist.

He required back to back wins in the qualifiers here to make the main draw and could fancy his chances here again a player who hasn’t played a lot in a while.

Coric v Verdasco Prediction and Tip

Coric might have to face a few difficulties but he could edge out Verdasco as he slides back into playing competitive tennis.
