Millman Looking for Consistency

John Millman brings a 5-7 season record to the Miami Open. This is the 32-year-old’s fourth main draw appearance in the tournament and he is yet to go past the second round, having fallen at that stage on all the three previous occasions.

Inconsistency has been a problem for Millman over the last couple of years that has seen him go down the rankings. A top 50 player for most parts last year, he slipped to No. 94 in January this year, but a run to the semifinals at Delray Beach helped him climb back the rankings.

Millman defeated higher-ranked players in Maxime Cressy, Marcos Giron and Grigor Dimitrov en route the final four in Delray Beach but missed out on a spot in a fourth career final after going down to Reilly Opelka.

That was Millman’s best this year. He was also in the second round of the Australian Open and most recently competed at Indian Wells as a lucky loser, winning against Jan-Lennard Struff in the first round but falling to fellow Aussie Alex de Minaur.

Galan Comes Through Qualifiers

Last year, Daniel Elahi Galan made a stunning run to the third round of the tournament on debut, accounting for Alex de Minar in the Round of 64, before falling to Lorenzo Sonego in the Round of 32. He will hope for at least a repeat of that performance, but he doesn’t come into the tournament in great form, bringing in a 2-3 main draw record.

Galan qualified for what will be his second Miami Open appearance with qualifying round wins over America’s Martin Damm Jr. and Argentina’s Nicolás Kicker. The win over Kicker in the second qualifying round was a tough one for the Colombian as he had to fight back from a set down to win the contest 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.

The 25-year-old, who has achieved more success on clay than on other surfaces, will be making his first main draw appearance on hard court this year. He was a quarterfinalist in Cordoba and also won a Challenger title in Concepción, Chile.

The World No. 118 will be hoping to make a solid start.

Millman v Galan Prediction and Tip

Millman’s experience and his success rate on hard courts will give him the edge. Expect the Aussie to advance in straight sets.
