Petra Kvitova is not having a very good year in 2022 yet the Czech player is rather optimistic about her chances in Miami. She’s always been a steady performer at this event reaching the 4th round the majority of times she played in this event. Doing so again would mean she would need to win two matches which she hasn’t done in a while.
It would be very crucial for her and her confidence and the courts generally favour her kind of playing style. A 6-7 record on the year is far from what she is used to and she is certainly much better than that. In Indian Wells, she bested Sasnovich which is a good win but then ran into Sakkari.
That was too much to overcome but there were still positives signs for her. If she can build upon that in Miami she will be in much better shape moving forward.

Steady Improvement for Burel
Clara Burel is a very young tennis player yet she has already shown that she belongs amongst the best players in the world. Her rise in the rankings has been a steady one and much is expected from her this year. She has a 2-4 record on the year which is not ideal but things should become better when she gets to clay.
Until then she will need to try and overcome a very good tennis player in conditions that might suit her playstyle the best. In Indian Wells last week she lost in the first round to Kalinina who is a player that plays quite aggressively as Kvitova.
That might signal some trouble for her matchup-wise but her performance in the 1st round of the Miami Open was much better and that might give her confidence heading into this one.

Petra Kvitova is a better player than Clara Burel at the moment and that is certainly amplified on hard courts. The Czech player has all the weapons needed to win this matchup in straight sets despite her confidence not being the best with a recent struggle in form.
Burel is a dangerous player yet on hard courts some of that danger gets mitigated by her unfamiliarity with the surface. She is only 21 years old and she will become a very good tennis player down the line but on this day against Kvitova in Miami, it’s not going to happen.
